The Poon Hill Trek is a captivating journey through the Annapurna region of Nepal, known for its stunning mountain views, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences.
The trek is of easy difficulty and is suitable for beginners. It can be combined with the
Annapurna Base Camp Trek for a slightly longer but very rewarding journey.
As you begin the trek, you’ll pass through charming villages like Tikhedhunga and Ulleri. The trail takes you through terraced fields, where locals grow crops such as rice, millet, and maize on the steep mountain slopes.
The trail then ascends through lush rhododendron forests, which burst into colorful blooms during the spring season (March to May). The dense forest canopy provides shade and a serene atmosphere as you continue your ascent.
The highlights of the trek is the early morning hike to Poon Hill (altitude: approximately 3,210 meters or 10,531 feet). It’s a short but steep climb, and once you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the
Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. The sunrise over the peaks is a truly magical experience.
The Poon Hill Trek offers some of the most stunning mountain views in Nepal. From Poon Hill, you can see Annapurna I (8,091 meters), Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters), Machapuchare (6,993 meters), Nilgiri (7,061 meters), and other peaks. The sight of these majestic mountains, especially at sunrise, is awe-inspiring and is a highlight of the trek.
The local teahouses and lodges along the trail often showcase
traditional Nepali hospitality, and you can enjoy local dishes such as dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momo (dumplings), and local beverages.
The Poon Hill Trek is a delightful blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion, making it a favorite choice for trekkers seeking a memorable adventure in the heart of the
Annapurna region. Whether you’re captivated by the mountain views, the lush forests, or the warm hospitality of the locals, this trek offers an unforgettable experience in the Himalayas.
